Writing a blog about
issues or industries you are passionate about can not only be a
fulfilling pastime, it can be a lucrative one. Many bloggers have
secured funding, or sponsorship, from companies that market products or
services in which a blogger's audience might be interested. Sponsorship
can happen for any blogger, including those that use Google's Blogger
platform, regardless of what they blog about. But to maximize your
chances of securing that sponsorship for your Blogger blog, you'll have
to follow some tips.
Step 1
Know
who reads your blog and how many of them do. A variety of analytic
tools are available online to help you track blog traffic and get a
better idea of just who your audience is. Companies are going to be
looking for this information when you go to them for sponsorship.
Step 2
Start
small. If your blog doesn't get a lot of traffic yet, that doesn't mean
you can't seek out sponsors. You just have to tailor your expectations.
Start with small sponsors who have a vested interest in the type of
blog you write. You may not get paid a lot to begin with, but as traffic
grows, you'll be able to command better rates.
Step 3
Create
a list of sponsors that would be interested in your blog. This is a key
component of successfully securing sponsorship. Don't simply target a
big company with deep pockets; target a company that sells a product or
service that makes sense to advertise on your blog.
Step 4
Use
concrete selling points when pitching sponsors. Avoid simply asking a
company to sponsor advertisements on your blog; tell it why it should.
Use your traffic numbers, your keyword results and your audience
demographics to convince it that your readers are a group to whom it
makes sense to advertise.
Step 5
Attract
new and repeat sponsors by promoting their sponsorship as much as you
can. Should you have a tentative deal with a sponsor, do your utmost to
make its sponsorship worthwhile, including advertising it to your
readers and broadcasting it across the Web.
